The hotel industry is in a state of constant change, characterised by the changing expectations of guests and the challenges of the global market. Sustainability in the hotel industry means much more than just hanging up ‘Please reuse towels’ signs in the bathrooms. It encompasses a holistic approach that takes into account all aspects of hotel operations – from energy efficiency and waste minimisation to the use of local and biodegradable products.

Sustainability also applies to the purchase of products. There is a clear trend towards regional and seasonal food, which is not only fresher, but also supports the local economy and reduces the carbon footprint. In addition, more and more hotels are making sure to use environmentally friendly cleaning products and choose sustainable furniture and furnishings.

But it’s not just the environment that benefits from sustainable practices – guest satisfaction also increases. More and more travellers prefer environmentally conscious hotels and are willing to pay more for sustainable offers. This gives hotels the opportunity to position themselves clearly in the competitive market and build a loyal customer base.

Of course, the switch to sustainable practices is associated with challenges. It requires investment and a rethink across the entire team. But the long-term benefits for both the environment and business success are enormous. By training and involving employees in the sustainability strategy, hotels can ensure that everyone is pulling in the same direction.
