Even if there is only tape music on your New Year’s Eve Ball, the event must be registered with the GEMA. With live music also, of course.
The costs are calculated from the amount of the admission fee, the size of the event area and the type of music used. GEMA likes to use flat-rate demands, for example, if the entry price includes menu & music. In these cases, the cost supposedly consists of 2/3 for the menu and 1/3 for the music. The restaurant owner or hotelier has the right however, to prove that the menu is more expensive.
